چکیده

in order to find the plant extracts with antifungal activity, 18 plant species were screened. in this study, distilled water, methanol, chloroform, aceton and ethanol were employed to obtain crude extract from plant samples. the extracts were tested against sugar beet root rot agents, rhizoctonia solani and phytophthora drechsleri. the inhibitory effect of different extracts was investigated by paper disc method. the most effective antifungal compounds belonged to carum copticum, zataria multiflora and pinus halepensis extracts, so that they showed high inhibitory activity in 1 mg/paper disc. the results of this research revealed the high potential of using natural plant extracts for controlling of plant pathogens.

Leuconostoc spp. Associated with Root Rot in Sugar Beet and Their Interaction with Rhizoctonia solani.

Rhizoctonia root and crown rot is an important disease problem in sugar beet caused by Rhizoctonia solani and also shown to be associated with Leuconostoc spp. Initial Leuconostoc studies were conducted with only a few isolates and the relationship of Leuconostoc with R. solani is poorly understood; therefore, a more thorough investigation was conducted. In total, 203 Leuconostoc isolates were ...

Antagonistic Activities of Trichoderma spp. on Phytophthora Root Rot of Sugar Beet

Trichoderma species are among important antagonists of plant pathogenic fungi. The main purpose of this study was to evaluate the biocontrol potential of native Trichoderma spp. isolates from sugar beet fields against Phytophthora drechsleri and P. cryptogea, the causal agents of Phytophthora root rot of sugar beet. During 2007–08, 85 isolates of Trichoderma spp. from sugar beet fields in eight...

Efficacy of Some Plant Extracts against Rhizoctonia Solani on Pea

Antifungal activity of ethanol-water extracts of four medicinal plants, cinnamon (Cinnamomum verum Presl.), anise (Pimpinella anisum L.), black seed (Nigella sativa L.) and clove (Syzygium aromaticum L. Merr. & Perry.) was investigated against pea (Pisum sativum L.) root-rot fungus Rhizoctonia solani. In vitro antifungal activity test shown a high growth inhibition at concentration (4%) of each...

Influence of glyphosate on Rhizoctonia and Fusarium root rot in sugar beet.

This study tests the effect of glyphosate application on disease severity in glyphosate-resistant sugar beet, and examines whether the increase in disease is fungal or plant mediated. In greenhouse studies of glyphosate-resistant sugar beet, increased disease severity was observed following glyphosate application and inoculation with certain isolates of Rhizoctonia solani Kuhn and Fusarium oxys...

IN VITRO ANTAGONISTIC EFFECTS OF TRICHODERMA SPP. ON SEVERAL SOILBORNE PLANT PATHOGENIC FUNGI

In vitro studies with Trichoderma spp., soil-borne fungal antagonists, demonstrated that a number of isolates produced volatile and non-volatile metabolites capable of inhibiting the growth and sporulation of several soil-borne plant pathogenic fungi. Microscopic observations showed that T. harzianm and T. viride, isolated from soil samples from Ahwaz and Karaj, adversely affected the myce...

Temperature, moisture, and fungicide effects in managing Rhizoctonia root and crown rot of sugar beet.

Rhizoctonia solani AG-2-2 is the causal agent of Rhizoctonia root and crown rot in sugar beet; however, recent increases in disease incidence and severity were grounds to reevaluate this pathosystem. To assess the capacity at which other anastomosis groups (AGs) are able to infect sugar beet, 15 AGs and intraspecific groups (ISGs) were tested for pathogenicity on resistant ('FC708 CMS') and sus...
